Bug Description

File /etc/fonts/conf.d/69-language-selector-ja.conf seems to have incorrect configuration for global fonts like Roboto. It disables correct hinting for any languages. See attached scrreenshot

Thanks for your report.

That file was introduced in connection with bug #1581160 to improve the rendering of Noto CJK fonts for Japanese.

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/language-selector/0.182

The intention is that it should only affect the rendering of fonts with "Noto" and "JP" in their names, so what you report is kind of surprising.

Can you please let us know the exact font names of some fonts which you think are affected by that configuration.
