Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

I am using an IMAP account in Evolution (from Gmail to be more specific) and I keep getting a weird "=?ISO-8859-1-Q?" string in the name field.

Wikipedia has an article about ISO-8859-1: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_8859-1

Please see the attached screenshot.

I am using Evolution 2.21.4 in Ubuntu Hardy. Happened in older versions, too.

Thanks. Could you please attach the headers of one such email here? I do not usually get email with headers set in other character sets... and I would like to find out how the raw email is built.

Comments from upstream (following the upstream links) point this as a known problem on Google's GMAIL. See http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78771&topic=12922.

One could also try newer versions of Evolution (Intrepid and Jaunty) to see if this has been addressed there.

Thank you for the tip! I switched to Jaunty and I no longer see the messed names in the name field. I also remember that the bug disappeared from Intrepid's Evolution (I don't know when though).

Since you're mentioning this has been fixed for a while, I'll close this as Invalid (because we don't know when this was covered).
