Bug Description

After installation I get this error:
“The ‘grub-efi-amd64-signed’ package failed to install into /target/ . Without the GRUB boot loader, the installed system will not boot.

My computer is old, my bios is very simple and has no option to choose anything mentioning UEFI, secure boot, or any other fancy things.

Disk partition table is MBR, partitions are custom made, multiple hdds are connected.

Following these instructions does not help https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI
The booting screen shows neither black screen with options (UEFI), nor purple screen (Legacy). It shows totally black screen, and then Ubuntu loading logo appears.

I had no such problem then installing Ubuntu 13.10, 14.04, 16.04 on the same computer.

I tried maybe already 10 times to install in all kinds of ways, no way it works.

Thanks, though your suggestion did not work.

But I got an idea - found another computer with a lot of bios options, thus I will be able to choose Legacy mode and install there, then move the HDD back to my computer and it might work:)

Nope, this workaround does not work either. Installed on another computer successfully (almost), but does not boot on mine. Forever black screen.

Finally!:) Workaround - it actually did work, if plug it with SATA connection instead of eSATA.

Though solved by using a workaround, this was and still is a bug - 18.04 installer do not work on an old computer, which do not have option to choose booting mode.
