Bug Description

This appears similar to question in https://askubuntu.com/questions/1054184/crippled-menus-in-konqueror-rekonq-and-digikam
Some other apps are also affected, including the menu bar in okular.
Many drop-down menus in web pages displayed in Opera also do not drop - items can be displayed using the down arrow key to scroll these (but not menus on menu bars)
When click on a menu bar item it goes dark grey, but the menu does not drop down.
I first noticed this after a recent upgrade. System is set to do automatic upgrades, but I often do them manually also.

Steps to show bug:
Run app (okular or digikam)
Move mouse over item on menu bar
Item goes dark grey (goes blue in other apps)
Click item
Nothing happens - should drop down menu entries.

Another user logged in to same computer shows the KDE panel and start menu backgrounds dark grey also.

Kubuntu has this bug. I desperately NEED these clickable menus on Okular and Firefox ///.

I have reverted to an old build of 12.04 to gain functionality.

For the debugging detectives: I have been using Okular and click its drop down menus to cut and paste from pdf documents daily. I usually avoid upgrading.

The bug appeared when I upgraded to Linux teleman1 4.4.0-130-generic #156-Ubuntu
and made Firefox /// menu button on North East corner of Firefox window
and all Okular menu bar items NOT clickable.

BUT on another machine Linux teleman2 4.4.0-128-generic #154 ...
BOTH Firefox /// menu button on North East corner of Firefox window
and all Okular menu bar items ARE clickable.

Both machs use newest Plasma.

While installing opencv on teleman2 some necessary but unintentional upgrades messed up the clickability on Okular and Firefox /// menu button on North East corner of Firefox window.

So to repeat myself I have reverted to an old build of 12.04 to gain functionality until Father Brown, Sherlock or Dick Tracy finds and removes the dastardly devil.

Selecting OpenGL interface EGL as suggested in above bug report (1780664) makes menus operate correctly, but does not completely cure some menu colours.

If those affected think this is the same bug, you could mark this bug as a duplicate of #1780664. Bug #1780664 has a fix committed now, which should be available in xenial-updates soon.
