Bug Description

Web client 3.0.9. Clicking on the title of an item in Item Status or the patron's Items Out list takes staff not to the catalog but to the workstation registration screen. (Photo attached.) Clicking on the title of an item in the Check In screen does take staff to the catalog.

We expect to navigate to the item's catalog record when the title is clicked in every screen where the title is clickable.

We had a library report this, as well. (Oddly enough our report was one day after this bug was posted).

I was wondering if you have Hatch installed on the computer and use it store local settings?

The library that reported this did. Unchecking to store local settings in Hatch seemed to fix the problem, (at least so far). They still use Hatch but have been manually updating the settings stored in it using the Copy Local Storage Settings to Hatch/Copy Hatch Settings to Local Storage buttons when needed.

We do use Hatch. I hadn't thought that it might be causing the problem. What you describe may be a good temporary work-around but it isn't practical for front line staff to switch back and forth between Hatch settings to perform different functions while at the circ desk.

Thanks for the response!

FYI, there is ongoing development (thanks to Bill Erickson!) to move storage of local settings to the server instead of through Hatch, which should resolve a lot of stored setting/Hatch issues.

I am very much looking forward to that development.

Diane, FWIW here's the workflow I've been suggesting to our libraries when they run into issues like this. I personally don't think it takes too much extra effort as the settings only have to be updated as much as you want. Since sending out this workflow, our Hatch issue reports have gone way down. You can see if it helps with the register workstation screen until Bill Erickson's development goes in.

This workflow involves manually updating the settings stored in Hatch so that you can restore them if your local settings are ever lost. The benefit of this is that Evergreen will only have to look at one set of preferences, thus preventing “stuck” preferences. The downside is that you have to periodically update the files stored in Hatch to ensure up-to-date settings are restored if ever lost.

If you are currently using Hatch and want to try this alternative...
1.Go to Administration>Workstation>Printer/Storage Service ("Hatch").
2.Click Copy Local Settings to Hatch. The step helps ensure that the files stored in Hatch are up-to-date.
3.Click Copy Hatch Settings to Local Storage. This ensures that any files that only existed in Hatch are now stored locally, as well.
4.Uncheck "Store Local Settings in Hatch". This step is what makes this process manual. Evergreen will now only look at your browser for settings, decreasing the likelihood of stuck preferences in the future.
5.Restart the browser. If there were any previously stuck preferences, you may have to adjust them one more time.

With this workflow, you will have to manually update the files stored in Hatch. If this is not done and your settings are lost and then restored, the settings brought back may not be your most recent settings. If you'd like to keep the stored settings up-to-date...
1.After a change is made, (i.e. columns configured in a new manner), go to Administration>Workstation>Printer/Storage Service ("Hatch").
2.Keep unchecked "Store Local Settings in Hatch".
3.Click Copy Local Storage Settings to Hatch.

Using this method, if you need to restore your saved settings...
1.After losing your settings, the next time you access the web client, you may be prompted to re-register the workstation. Go ahead and register the workstation.
2.Go to Administration>Workstation>Printer/Storage Service ("Hatch").
3.Do NOT check Store Local Settings in Hatch. Instead simply click Copy Hatch Settings to Local Storage to bring back your saved settings.

I'm not seeing this in 3.7 master with Hatch 0.2.2 enabled. I think that Bill's work moving various settings to server has rendered this bug a nonissue.

Thoughts?
