Bug Description

I don't know exactly what is happening.

I am installing a new version of Ubuntu 18.04 onto an internal HDD and following the advice given by several web sites on what to do after installing Ubuntu.

I am fairly new to linux!

I was running this command in Terminal

sudo apt install synaptic vlc gimp gimp-data gimp-plugin-registry gimp-data-extras bleachbit openjdk-8-jre oracle-java8-installer unace unrar zip unzip p7zip-full p7zip-rar sharutils rar uudeview mpack arj cabextract file-roller mencoder flac faac faad sox ffmpeg2theora libmpeg2-4 uudeview mpeg3-utils mpegdemux liba52-dev mpeg2dec vorbis-tools id3v2 mpg321 mpg123 icedax lame libmad0 libjpeg-progs libdvdcss2 libdvdread4 libdvdnav4 ubuntu-restricted-extras ubuntu-wallpapers*

Add scrolling through the Terminal, I found these error messages:

dpkg-deb: error: paste subprocess was killed by signal (Broken pipe)

Those guides had you installing the new version of gimp from a PPA. To do that, you must first uninstall all packages related to gimp. Additionally, this is not a valid bug since installations from PPAs are not officially supported.
