Russian group names show both in right encoding and corrupted

Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

I have a user group with Russian name.
After logging in it appears in two forms: with right encoding and with wrong encoding as two different groups with the same set of users!
I can delete the wrong one of them, but after relogin it appears again.

it's been a long time since you reported this bug. Is this still an issue? Which version of ubuntu and pidgin are you using now?
