Web Client: Pull List Call Number include Prefix / Suffix

Bug Description

In XUL the Call Number column in the Pull List excluded Call Number Prefix and Suffix. In 3.0.8 and 3.1 Web Client, the Call Number column includes the Prefix and Suffix. While I cannot document this, we believe this was not the case in pre 3.0.8 Web Client. Can the Call Number column be reconfigured to exclude Prefix and Suffix?

Hi Scott,

Based on this comment from Bill Erickson, https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1653001/comments/7, it looks like the affixes were part of the call number in the pull list as long as a sortable pull list has been available in the web client.

If a call number were added to this grid without affixes, we would want it to be in addition to the current call number field as our libraries prefer to see the affixes as part of the call number. Of course, adding a second call number field could add confusion for users.

Hi Kathy,
Thank you for passing along Bill's comment. Since, in some of our libraries, the Prefix denotes an area within a Shelving Location, here is a common workflow:

1. Staff member goes first to the Shelving Location. Since this is a separate column and sortable, this is not a problem.
2. Staff member goes to the area within the Shelving Location denoted by the Prefix.
3. Staff member then picks the items within that area. Since the items are shelved call number order, the call number itself should be sortable separately even if a prefix exists. Otherwise, the staff member will be winding their way through the stacks looking for far-flung items in apparently random order which is inefficient.

Obviously, this is only a problem for larger libraries, but it is a pretty big inconvenience.

Scott

It looks like we still have both a Call Number and Call Number Label in this grid. Maybe one - Call Number - could be repurposed to only show the call number and the other - Call Number Label - could include prefix & suffix. We would also need to ensure that both are sorting by call number sortkey. I haven't tested it recently, but, at one time, I think only one was sorting by sortkey.

We would also need to document this well since I could see the two separate fields being a point of confusion.

I was thinking the same thing. I just assumed Call Number Label existed for just that reason; so, if you wanted to sort by Prefix / Call Number (all in one) you could while Call Number would be just the call number itself.

We're running 3.2.8 and the holds pull list grid has the following columns for call numbers:

Call Number - contains prefix, label, and suffix
Call Number Label - contains prefix, label, and suffix
Call Number Prefix - contains prefix
Call Number Suffix - contains suffix

My preference would be to leave generially named Call Number as is, but alter the more specifically named Call Number Label so it contains just the label. This would give the user the option to choose the whole call number from "Call Number", or the individual pieces of the call number using the more specific column names.
