Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Seems to be intermittent, but switching VT from a text console back to the X server console can result in X crashing taking the whole session with it.

More details: the machine is a ThinkPad T61 with Intel GM965 graphics running amd64 Feisty. Screen is the internal 1680x1050, no external screen connected. Attached is the Xorg.0.log file which includes a stack backtrace.

You really should try 7.10 or even hardy alpha1. The driver has changed a lot.

Gah! My mistake: this *is* on 7.10. xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.1.1-0ubuntu9 to be precise.

Mark, would you mind testing to see if this still occurs on Hardy? I'm setting to confirmed for now.

The Hardy Heron Alpha series is currently under development and contains an updated version of the -intel driver. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron Alpha release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/ . You should be able to test the new -intel driver using the LiveCD. If you can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results. General information regarding the release can also be found here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ .
Thanks.
