Any progress? Let me mention the bug again:

As of the latest version:
  KUBUNTU 18.04
  OKULAR 1.3.3
that I installed a few says ago, OKULAR ignores the system-wide printer default "long side duplex", and offers "none" as the default.

This causes frequent wasteful printing!

Nobody seems to want to do anything about this...

Is there a good alternative to send a pdf file to print, other than OKULAR?

There is a working backported patch fixing the bug linked here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtbase-opensource-src/+bug/1776173

I even set up a PPA where a patched version of qt is available.

Dear ubuntu maintainers, please include this patch into the official ubuntu packages so that everyone can profit. Also for environmental reasons (with this bug it is very likely that people waste paper) this should be done. The patch is very simple.
