Bug Description

When I switch from nvidia to nouveau from software-properties-gtk and reboot, with the nouveau driver already running, I experience graphic glitches on gnome apps. This is due to "xserver-xorg-video-nouveau" missing.

It should be installed somehow.

When I installed ubuntu I was running the discrete graphics card so nvidia proprietary drivers installed automatically. Then I wanted to switch to nouveau and that package is missing.

Does the problem occur only in Xorg sessions or Wayland too?

Please run 'apport-collect 1773651' to help us get more information about the machine.

It happens with Gnome and Plasma, for gnome apps like synaptics, etc. I can't even login to Wayland, the screen goes black just after entering my user's password and clicking enter.

What information do you need to know exactly? It's a nvidia gtx 10 series

Reassigning to the modesetting driver. Because it sounds like the problem is in modesetting, and only fixed by switching to nouveau.

The apport-collect is a mess and doesn't work, what do you need exactly?

Just tell me what you need and stop messing around with buggy software.

OK.

1. Please tell us the version of Ubuntu you are using.

2. Please attach a list of packages installed from running:
   dpkg -l > dpkg.txt

3. Please attach details of the graphics hardware and drivers by running:
   lspci -k > lspci-k.txt

And attach the resulting two text files.

P.S. The nouveau driver is known to be buggy. You may want to go back to the official Nvidia drivers instead.

The issue does not happen anymore with the current configuration, even without having xserver-xorg-video-nouveau uninstalled. Maybe another package I've installed recently supplied the required files...

I'll keep using the proprietary nvidia it's years ahead.

Thanks. Incomplete now, while you can't reproduce the issue.

I suspect this bug might be firmware related. So maybe that came from the nvidia driver, linux-firmware, or somewhere else.
