Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.15

I was installing the i386 6.06.2 daily build from 20071207.2 in VMware Workstation and the install crashed at 31% "Installing core packages". Switching to a tty I was presented with a kernel oops report. I've taken screenshots of the oops.

I've had a second kernel oops during the installer and it was also related to ext3. It is bug 177384.

Could this be a consequence of using the new Fusion MPT driver from l-b-m? The new kernel does not change any file system driver.

FWIW, I also tested 6.06.2 in vmware with ext3 without any problems. Might be a race condition which has always been there, or has become much more likely now. Brian, do you get this in a second attempt, too?

As of yet I've been unable to reproduce these crashes on my laptop but have seen the following when booting the iso:

mptspi: disagrees about version of symbol mptscsih_io_done
mptspi: Unknown symbol mptscsih_io_done

for multiple different symbols.

I've been unable to reproduce this as well. I've uploaded a new linux-backports-modules-2.6.15 which fixes a bug there. Perhaps it is the root cause of this problem.

Thanks. Let's blame this to the bug that was fixed today in linux-backports-modules.
