Trying to install Ubuntu 18.04 64 bit over my old system which was Ubuntu 16.04 64 bit with Unity. My computer is a Sony Vaio VGN-NW150J.

Your installation medium is corrupt; you will need to recreate it and may want to verify it using the check disc option at the boot menu.
