is this bug still alive?

Yes, there is still no legend implemented which would for sure make it more comprehensible for novice users.

kakaroto could you look at this bug?

Humm.. I think the whole interface changed a lot since this bug was created, we changed the colors and how to represent who is where. We also added a color for each group (green for AL, red for BL, yellow background for CL and red background for RL) and the colors of each entry (background and foreground) represent the colors in the header of each list. I think this can be considered as a 'legend'. It's now much more intuitive and people understand how it works much more easily (it's been years since the last user asked us how it works).
If necessary, there's always the FAQ which people can refer to :

http://www.amsn-project.net/wiki/FAQ#In_the_preferences.27_privacy_tab.2C_what_do_the_different_colors_in_the_contacts_mean.3F

If you think something is still needed, let us know what exactly.

I'm only asking you if I can close this bug...

I've adopted amsn since one month and there is a lot of really old bugs there...

So, I'm trying to clean so many bugs I can (and for the others I'll ask you... sorry :))

I'm using 0.98.1 which is shipped with Ubuntu Karmic and the interface here still looks similar. I have figured out which colors are which but it is in the Privacy tab not trivial for beginners.

@Locutus: no problem, as far as I'm concerned, it should be closed.
@Pander: Yes, people can figure out what the colors are, and if they can't, then it's best for them not to touch that section at all.. The privacy tab is really meant for advanced users, not for beginners, and I would rather not have n00bs playing around with it. So no legend.. good, I'd consider it a feature rather than a bug :) Some kind of anti-n00b security system :)
If you have something to suggest though, let me know.

Somebody should set the "won't fix" option...

Kakaroto do you have the rights?

kakaroto (kakaroto) wrote :

humm.. not sure I have the rights.. I see a combobox with 'invalid, fix commited, fix released, .." but no "won't fix", maybe someone else can do it.

Hi Pander and anyone else affected.
Could you please try the new amsn 0.98.9-1 from my ppa [1]?
this version is available for precise and quantal and it contains so many bug fixes.
If this doesn't fix the problem set the status back to new

looks like this bug should be marked as invalid anyway
