Thunar Hangs Loading Directory Contents

An older bug that is still present and worse for me in Xubuntu 18.04 than in the previous 16.04 LTS.

Often I go to load the contents of a new directory by clicking on it. Thunar displays a throbber/spinner icon just below the 'X' to close the window. Frequently, the window then freezes and has to be closed.

Sometimes I can break the 'hang' by trying to change to another directory quickly but more often than not Thunar does not recover and the window has to be closed.

Interestingly, other open instances of Thunar are unaffected. They do not hang.

yes i experience the same behavior. not sure how to reproduce it reliably but i see it happening at least 3 times a week.

same symptoms as OP xubuntu 18.04 fully updated, thunar 1.6.15

Does Thunar create any log messages? Check ~/.xsession-errors or run this command which will terminate the Thunar daemon first, so that log output can be printed to the terminal:

$ killall Thunar; thunar

Other than that, I suggest trying to reproduce this bug with Thunar 1.8.x in Xubuntu 18.10 or by installing the new version from the following PPA:
