k3b 1.0.4 in KDE 3.5.8 doesn't verify disc after burning

Bug Description

Binary package hint: k3b

k3b 1.0.4 doesn't seem to be able to verify the CDs/DVDs that I burn after burning them. I already enabled the 'verify after burning' option. But after k3b ejects my discs after a successful burn operation, it doesn't continue to verify them. That is, only 50% overall progress gets done.
I tried reinstalling (and even purging) k3b, k3b related software, cdrecord etc. just to give my Ubuntu 7.10 a 'start from zero' state when it comes to scanning my DVD drives. However, that too didn't work.
Please help.
Thanks.

here's the output file of my k3b after a successful burn but no verification. I had to cancel the whole process. I think the write/burn operation is fine, but it still bothers me that the verification process doesn't continue.

I am noticing the exact same problem. When it pulls the disk back in, it just sits and doesn't detect it for verify even though it is mounted fine.

Mine only has this problem about a third of the time.

I am using K3B version 1.0.3 in Ubuntu 7.10

I am not sure, but maybe it is an incompatibility with the gnome desktop.

I would try a burning program for gnome, but there isn't any decent burning software for gnome. (If it doesn't verify it is crap)

Yes my DVD tray just gets pulled back and no verification is made at all.
The progress just keeps on saying 50% complete, and the time duration keeps
on counting.
Here are my relevant specs:

f@foxhound1:~$ k3b --version
Qt: 3.3.7
KDE: 3.5.8
K3b: 1.0.4

I'm using KDE on Xubuntu 7.10

Really? I think mine has that for 100% of the time. I can't remember when I
last upgraded k3b such that this started happening. But I've been using K3B
for about 4 years now, and only this time do I experience this problem.

I wouldn't say it's crap, but I do think that having verification is a lot
better (^)__(^)

This seems to be a resource contention problem with /usr/sbin/hald
My writer is on /dev/hdb
Shooting 'hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/hdb' made K3b work properly in the verification phase.

I'm not sure though of what you mean by
'Shooting 'hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/hdb' made K3b work properly in
the '
?
Could you please elaborate a bit more?
thanks.

After installing 8.04 I end up here...

k3b 1.0.4 won't verify when writing a dvd, it just hangs at verify on two different computers with usb & internal writers.

Tried a different method to write: Create just the image first then use tool > burn dvd iso image.
When the disc is reinserted for verification it occasionally produces a message box saying quit other application using the drive (as it was a dvd image I tried totem opened).

A possible fix could be to disable auto-run, only the auto-run setting that was in system>preferences>removable drives and media>storage for ubuntu 7.10 it is not there for 8.04

Removing totem seems to help a least when burning dvd isos but not when clicking burn

Hi guys,

I think I've finally solved this problem, at least in my setup (ubuntu
hardy). I just turned on the option of not ejecting the disk after burning
finishes, and it seems to work (verification) every single time. I'll be
glad to hear what the case is with you guys.

I'm confirming having the same issue with k3b 1.0.4-2ubuntu4 on ubuntu 8.04.1 - by the way, with both brasero and k3b not doing verification, can some recommend a burning program that works?

Actually, K3B's burning + verification now works for me, as long as I enable
the option 'Do not eject disk after burning'.
Now the problem doesn't exist anymore.

I also have checked the option to not eject after writing and yet it doesn't start verifying. I can rule out hardware issue because verify has worked for me before using same hardware. Happens with 1.0.4 version with KDE 3.5.9. Writing process itself is successful, checked with md5sum.
