package virtualbox-ext-pack (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: installed virtualbox-ext-pack package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

During upgrade from ubuntu 17.10 to ubuntu 18.04, the upgrade failed at the point of updating virtualbox-ext-pack. The upgrade applicatoin closed then. I had to manually complete it by using a Terminal and launching sudo dpkg -r virtualbox-ext-pack && sudo dpkg --configure -a && sudo apt --purge autoremove (thus virtualbox-ext-pack is marked as not installed).
