Bug Description

Inkscape 0.92.3 (2405546. 2018-03-11)

OS: Windows 10 Pro Ver 1709 Build 16299.371

Using the ctrl+click shortcut on the shape handle of any shape (rectangle, ellipse & star tested) causes an 'internal error' and the program to crash.

Hi Tim, I'm afraid we need more info to be able to help.

Could you write precisely what steps lead to the crash for you (i.e. which handles you clicked and in which order, with which keyboard modifiers held, ...).

Two things you can try:
- Delete/rename the file "preferences.xml"
  in the folder "%appdata%\inkscape"
to reset preferences and rule out an issue there.
- If the issue persists run "inkscape.com" from a command prompt
and check if any debug output is generated when Inkscape crashes.

Hi Eduard

Renaming preferences does not correct the problem. I have also run the
program, from the command prompt and don't appear to generate any log
when it terminates.

I have done the following tests:

  * Rectangles: I drag the radius handle to create a radius. I then
ctrl+click the moved handle (to equalise the two radius handles) or
I ctrl+click the unmoved radius handle (to remove the radius).
  * Ellipses: I create an ellipse and then ctrl+click on the top sizing
handle (to change the ellipse into a circle)
  * Stars: I move the inner control handle so that the sides of the star
are unequal and I then ctrl+click on that handle (to centralise the
    handle and equalise the sides)

Results are as follows:

  * I am able to perform this action two or three times (the number of
times varies from session to session) for rectangles before
    encountering the problem.
  * For ellipses and stars I initially encountered the problem _every_
time I tried one of the tests. However, having tested much more
since your message I now find that, as with rectangles, the action
now performs correctly a small number of times before failing.
  * On those occasions it fails, the program performs and displays the
requested action but then displays the internal message box (sent to
    you earlier) and freezes.

Kind regards

Tim Bowen

Thanks, I could reproduce all three cases with this info.
It's important to "Ctrl+Click" without dragging to trigger the crash.

I have a feeling this is related to bug #1522085 as it behaves very similarly, i.e.
- reproduces in stable versions of 0.92.2 / 0.92.3
- does not seem to reproduce in current nightly (25e912330d)
- does not reproduce in 0.92.x when run through gdb
- crashes in the same spot (if my debug statements are to be trusted)

Changed in inkscape:
status: New → Confirmed
status: Confirmed → Triaged
importance: Undecided → High
