Bug Description
Using Software & Updates > Additional Drivers to switch from NVIDIA driver 384.111 to Nouveau results in failure to load nouveau module. Instead, the system defaults to some backup video driver. Multiple monitors are plugged into the NVIDIA card but only one monitor appears to be detected or receive output. The /var/log/Xorg.0.log contains message "(EE) DRM failed to open device" and there is no /sys/class/drm directory. Some apparently conflicting kernel drivers are still on the system, including rivafb and nvidiafb.
Tested on two separate systems with configurations:
Ubuntu 14.04 & 16.04, kernel 4.4.0 lowlatency, LXDE desktop environment

Hello.
I know, that this bug report is about 'nouveau' module and so on. But since Mr. Jackson Smith described "Settings -> Software & Updates -> Additional Drivers" I would like to ask about one thing: do you still see an option regarding 'intel-microcode' or 'amd64-microcode'? I'm writing about this, because there always was an option to choose microcode etc. (please see 1.)
A couple of weeks ago, about a month ago, I noticed, that there is no microcode option in the "Additional Drivers" tab anymore. There is just one NVIDIA option to choose. Maybe it's related with "Spectre & Meltdown" patches, but I can be wrong. So, could someone check this on his computer? I apologize for asking about such an issue here, but really, I don't know what to do and I'm confused. Is this normal?
Thanks, best regards. _______ _______ /i.stack. imgur.com/ 8WAEw.png
