VLC does not play dvd's properly or at all

Bug Description

Running Kubuntu Beta 2 18.04. VLC does not play DVD's properly... just provides a blank screen which flickers while the timeline moves as though the DVD is playing properly. Kaffeine plays the same video properly.

Please provide the output of vlc -vvv when playing said DVD.

Would like to have this submittal closed. In further testing, the problem did not exist when VLC was run by a totally new user. Thus the problem must lie within my old and possibly corrupt /home configuration(s). I have since rebuilt the entire /home.
