Bug Description

After updating BIOS from version 1.0.8 to 1.1.9 (http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=JP8NT) preinstalled ubuntu stopped loading on my latitude 5490. Live iso ubuntu 16.04 LTS also does not load (black screen). BIOS downgrade is blocked by vendor.

The Latitude 5490 of my colleague had Ubuntu 17.10 installed and updated the firmware automatically to 1.1.9 (I assume via fwupd). Now the machine boots to a black screen and all attempts to reinstall the system have failed so far. BIOS downgrade is blocked. Booting to recovery mode still works.

Dell support told us that Ubuntu is not supported and we shall not install it!

Syslog contains some ACPI errors. Turning ACPI off in Grub silences those messages but the system does not start up anyway.
