Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

Hardware: Weybridge
OS: Hardy Alpha 1 i386

Steps to reproduce:

1. Use "xrandr -o 0" or "xrandr -o 1" or "xrandr -o 2" to rotate the screen.
2. The screen is rotated. But the system do not response if I hit the keyboard. And I cannot use the mouse to drag a window. Click a icon by mouse will not cause any action.

Do you mean that the xserver hangs? Mouse still works but the system is otherwise frozen? Can you still kill the server by hitting ctrl-alt-backspace?

Yes. I can kill the server by hitting ctrl-alt-backspace. Mouse still
works but the system is otherwise frozen. Looks like xserver hangs.

This bug is not fixed in Hardy Alpha-2. But it shows different behavior.

Rotation 180 degree will failed with the following message:

$ xrandr -o 2
Failed to change the screen configuration!

Rotation 90 or 270 degree will cause the screen turns black and the monitor turns into sleep mode. Hitting ctrl-alt-backspace can kill the X server.

i386 - OK

x86_64 - ERRORS (below)

xrandr -o [1,2,3] correctly rotates the screen, however the mouse buttons don't function, and no keyboard input in the xterm. ctrl-alt-bkspc works and kills the x server, however logging back in produces erratic behavior (the mouse buttons won't work sometimes, the top menu bar won't display sometimes, etc.) Also, switching to tty [1-6] while the screen is rotated, then switching back to gdm will render the screen black although the mouse pointer is visible and can be moved.

Apparently there is a fix via this Compiz bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/132065

A debian package is posted, but the fix works only with the verison of mesa in Hardy. I can't test it, but it sounds promising.
