Bug Description

Hi, first a big thanks you for your nice idea, I really like that!

It might be of interest to you that Ubuntu 18.04 has no gSTM any more - this was many years the only ssh tunnel manager gui. This is now gone, I do not know why - and this means that your shiny new and beautyful tunnel manager gui might get the number one tunnel manager gui on Ubuntu - if you just published a package for Bionic 18.04!

I would try to do it myself but that process is so extremely complicated for somebody not deeply involved into Ubuntu dev libraries that I am asking you, if you would like to do that?

Would be very appreciated - I really like to have a gui for ssh tunnels, especially when installing them on normal user machines - it helps them to have a much better understanding of what exactly happens.

Thank you very much for your effort!

yes, I said THE number 1 ssh tunnel manager gui! :)))

Have a nice day!

Thanks for the report, and I apologize for the long delay in acknowledging it. I so seldom get any kind of communication about the project that I forgot to check the e-mail box this mail goes to.

I'll see whether I can get it running on Bionic. It sounds like it might require a bit more major surgery than usual. I suspect the gSTM issue will have been similar, since AFAICT that project isn't really maintained any longer.

I usually only run the LTS releases and generally don't migrate until my office does, which can take several months, so it might take some time before I get a development environment set up. I'll see whether I can dig in before the end of the month.

I installed a bionic chroot today and installed the application from the xenial repo. It appears to mostly work as expected. There is an error message when attempting to load the config, but it doesn't appear to be a major issue. I can configure tunnels and ports and successfully start the tunnel. I can use the ports associated with the tunnel once it's started.

Rather than just copying the old version to the bionic repo, I want to test it a bit more thoroughly. In the mean time, it looks like you can simply install the xenial version and its dependencies

Feel free to post specific bugs for the xenial version when running it in bionic and I'll look at them when I have a chance.
