Bug Description

After upgrading libvte to latest release, When installing deb with gdebi, it shows following error:

unable to read filedescriptor flags for <package status and progress file descriptor.

Running gnome-terminal also gives "could not found /etc/profile.d/vte.sh"

Downgrading to 0.50.2 fixes the issue.

I don't know where your /etc/profile.d/vte.sh issue is coming from.

vte2.91 instead ships /etc/profile.d/vte-2.91.sh

I do see that budgie-desktop-common ships /etc/profile.d/vte.sh . Did you have that package installed?

I'm setting to Incomplete because it's not clear how to reproduce this issue from a clean Ubuntu 18.04 install or from an upgrade from a previous Ubuntu release.

You are right. Tilix and budgie-minimal is indeed installed. But I didn't know that budgie session is not compatible with gnome. Assigning to budgie-dev.

Khurshid - is the package budgie-desktop-common installed ?

that package creates a symlink between vte.sh and vte-2.91.sh

tested a fresh daily UB minimal install. All ok with no errors. This not sure how to reproduce this. Setting to incomplete.

Let's handle the gdebi issue in LP: #1756238

That only leaves your vte.sh issue.

Khurshid, it would help us handle this bug if you could start with a clean install and then try to reproduce this bug. Then reply here with a list of the steps you took to reproduce the bug. (Upgrading from 17.10 could be one of the steps if needed.)

I experienced the issue when I updated the system and vte.sh was not created. I will try a clean install and report here.

I've got an issue that may be the same or related, but is occurring on install:

```
dpkg: error processing archive /var/cache/apt/archives/budgie-desktop-common_0.9.9ubuntu1_all.deb (--unpack):
 trying to overwrite '/etc/profile.d/vte.sh', which is also in package libvte-2.90-common 1:0.36.3-1ubuntu2
```

..does this provide the missing info needed to fix this bug, or is this unrelated?

It appears libvte-common was somehow stuck at 2.90 on my system, even though a newer one was available. My guess is that this was from a PPA.

Yeah - 1:0.28.2-5ubuntu4 should be the package version of libvte - so I guess you must have installed a PPA with a later version. You should have purged the PPA first before installing budgie
