Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd

I'm trying the radeonhd driver on hardy x64 on an asus m2a-vm hdmi mobo. this board has a RS690 chip with integrated radeon x1250 gpu.

when loading the xserver, radeonhd segfaults. the log is attached.

meanwhile on the screen, it says that it cannot get any edid data. looking for information on edid, it found that there is no read-edid package for x64 systems. I'm not sure the driver would need that though. It might be another issue.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XorgOnTheEdge has the new radeonhd driver now, it's built on Gutsy but should work fine on Hardy.

The packages in you ppa, you mean? Those are not installable (both depend on xserver-xorg-core and try to remove it). I think because xserver-xorg-core is versioned 2:1.3.0*.0* in gutsy while in hardy it's 2:1.4.1*~2007...* and radeonhd seems to think 1.3.0.0 is bigger than 1.1.4~2007... or so

Or do you provide packages for hardy? Your ppa page lists them:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/tormodvolden/ubuntu *hardy* main

I only provide for Gutsy at the moment. I just checked my ppa page and I see no mention of hardy?

I will think of making Hardy packages, or make the Depends field work for both. Thanks for the hint.

about the ppa: that's a bug in lauchpad then. when I first get to the page it displays hardy, but when activating gutsy in the selection-thingy, it becomes gutsy (and the same for feisty)

about the hardy packages: I've built from git for now, not tested if it works yet. but packages for hardy would be cool, at last its the driver/distro of the future! ;-)

That explains it. I forgot that I am using the launchpad beta, where this probably is fixed already.

Joachim, can you please attach the error messages from trying to install the gutsy version on hardy?

When I try:
 dpkg --compare-versions 2:1.3 lt 2:1.4.1~git20071212-1ubuntu1 && echo true
I get "true" as one should expect.

This may be the same bug as I had and also bugs 154162, 161215, 147547.

Ubuntu 7.10, Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H with ATI X1250. Could not perform graphical install, text install appears to hang after reboot. Fixed by installing latest ATI drivers (8.1 Jan 2008 ) and setting default screen resolution to 1024x768 in /etc/usplash.conf.

duncang, if it was the same bug, it would have been fixed by the above ppa package.
