After system updates applications installed via snap failed to start

Bug Description

After installing updates (sudo update and upgrade) on or about 3/18/18 applications installed using snap fail to start. Specifically chromium, gimp, and vlc. No really good indications what is going wrong for chromium but starting gimp from the command line results in

ln: failed to create symbolic link '/home/cliff/snap/gimp/30/.config/gtk-2.0/gtkfilechooser.ini': File exists
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "gail"
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "atk-bridge"
Cannot open display:

Have two system at 18.04 and both cannot open an application that was install with snap.

Correction - the second system is not failing. All snap installed application are running OK. Could be the mix of application installed on this system. List of snaps installed;

Thought both my laptop and desktop were failing to start snap installed applications but recheck the desktop yesterday and found snap installed application were OK. After starting the laptop and running update/upgrade (do that every morning) the snap applications are starting again. Please close this bug out.

Setting to Invalid to "close this bug out" as requested, although it would've been nice to figure out what was going on.
