That error is consistent with not restarting firefox after updates.

I'm fully patched, rebooted a few times, and restarted Firefox several times. I am currently unable to add new bookmarks.
(ubuntu 8.10 alpha 6)

Version 3.0.10: unable to save bookmarks. After modifying them then normal exiting, the next time the old version of bookmarks appear.

Workaround: save them manually with Bookmark Backup.
