Bug Description

After recent update to Hardy Heron several applets in kde taskbar no longer function.
Trash applet permanently empty
System Menu applet empty
Storage Media applet empty
All of these applets present an error message on startup saying: 'malformed url system:/, malformed url media:/, malformed url trash:/'
In addition konqueror has been removed (whether this is by design or not I do not know, dolphin still works)
Also the 'device icons' tab is missing from 'system settings/desktop/behavior' This tab is essential and if it has been removed deliberately rather than by accident, then it MUST be replaced.

Still not working here either. Same issue when left-clicking the System Menu icon and choosing remote places.

I would say this is high importance, as newbies will have no idea how to recover items in the trashcan or browse the remote network.

I'm running hardy alpha-2 since a couple of weeks installed on a real harddisk. The bug still appears:
- Left click on the trash icon on the right hand side in the taskbar
- Click on "Open in new window"
- A dialog will appear with the message "Malformed URL trash:/", the dialog title is "Error - KIOExec ..."

(the number of items in the trash can when I hover over it is as expected)

Most users will hit this bug.

Regards,
Sven

2008.01.24, Thursady.

I can confirm the 'Storage Media' part for Hardy alpha 3(ix86), present on both, the live cd and after install. 'Home Folder' option works for me on the same System menu applet. I have not tried 'trash', 'remote folders' and other options yet.

Works well in D3lphin.

Thanks.

It works well in D3lphin IF I OPENED D3lphin before! (and choose trash or storagemedia right in D3lphin). But in Panel it still doesn't work.

I can consistently reproduce this error in hardy alpha2 and alpha3. It's also a bug that all people using Kubuntu will hit upon, a lot of people will even hit it when trying the live cd.

Even simple things as plugging in an USB flash drive will fail. First, KDE daemon pops up asking what to do with the newly discovered hardware. If I just want to open it and browse for files, it will fail with the error message.

I have the same problem. I have all the latest updates and am running Kubuntu Hardy amd64 version.

Garbage Bin -> Open in New Window = Malformed URL trash:/
System Menu -> Storage Media = Malformed URL media:/.
System Menu -> Remote Places = Malformed URL remote:/.
System Menu -> Users Folders = Malformed URL home:/.

If I plug in a flash drive or external USB HDD, (in this case a CORSAIR 4GB USB Flash drive) the following happens...
KDE Daemon window pops up asking what I would like to do, Open in new window is highlighted.
If i click on OK, i get the following error : /media/CORSAIR is a folder, but a file was expected.

If I then click on the CORSAIR media icon on the desktop, a D3lphin window opens displaying the content of the flash drive and i can use it.

Hope this information can help sort out the problem in some way.

Keep up the good work guys - Very happy with Kubuntu Hardy thus far :)

Rod.

All the above mentioned error messages are still present. I'm on Alpha 5 (Upgraded from Alpha 3).

Using the System Menu (or opening the trash folder) i get malformed url messages and also errors when opening folders for usb flash drives etc.

However, everything works fine when opening from within d d3lphin window.

Hurray, this bug seems to be solved by the latest update of Dolphin (dolphin 0.9.2-0ubuntu5)!

* Fix patch kubuntu_02_change_name_to_dolphin.patch to use Dolphin name not D3lphin and to accept URLs

"... to accept URLs" was probably the fix. Thank you, Jonathan.

I still see it (completely up to date to the latest kubuntu 8.4 version). As testcase:

- Left click on the trash icon in the right lower side of the screen
- Left click on "Open in new window"
- Results in malformed url message.
