Bug Description

Clean installing Hardy using Alternate CD for AMD64 results in error during 'Installing Base System'. Towards the end of 'Installing Base System', the screen goes red and an error box states that "linux-generic" could not be installed. Another dialog box is then displayed asking which kernel to install, giving three options: linux-generic, linux-image-generic, linux-image-2.6.22-14-generic. No matter what selection is made the installation cannot continue.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu. Can you please answer these questions:
- Which version of the CD did you use (i.e. alpha-1 or daily)?
- As the CD image (ISO file) you downloaded could be corrupt, could you please visit [WWW] https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM follow the instructions and report back as to whether or not the MD5SUM verified?
- If you have an older version of Ubuntu running on your system, can you provide information about your system by running the command "sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log" and attach the resulting file "lspci-vvnn.log" to this bug report?

As the alpha-2 version will be released very soon, it would be helpful if you also can add results with the alpha-2 release to this bug report.

This bug *still* exists in the daily iso. The image is not corrupt, as it passed its self-test. It's a fresh install on i386, with nothing pre-existing. I'm using the alternate CD because the Live CD doesn't support RAID for some odd reason.

This is a *huge* show stopper.

Hello - I have a Lenovo T61P and running into the same issue mentioned here. I am using the Hardy Heron Alternate CD (i386). I don´t get the option to choose the other kernels though.

The installer points to logs in /var/log/syslog. I have attached this and a hw report of my system.

Just wanted to update here ... I noticed that there is now 8.04.1 (at least the Kubuntu version). Using that as the installation version, I was able to get past this problem.
