There shouldn't be any need for the qtparted-root script, X-KDE-SubstituteUID=true should run it as root regardless. Could you test that and re-do this patch?

Here it is, but I've checked it and X-KDE-SubstituteUID=true doesn't work on Ubuntu (with GNOME, Gutsy).

Closing this. A patch fixing the build problems (which were fixed in my second debdiff here but not on the uploaded one) it attached to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtparted/+bug/185885...
