sudo do-release-upgrade
I hit Enter at the first prompt. Then, 99% [Waiting for headers]. Then, it says "Error during update" and it aborts.

Something went wrong when the release upgrader was trying to create a sources.list file for your upgrade. I suspect the problematic lines in your original sources.list file are the following:
