Yeah. Ubuntu 18.04 UEFI is causing a lot of stress.

Grub2 fails to install.

Boot-Repair says, "Locked ESP"

and all that stuff.

I used my computer with "legacy boot" + gpt partitioning.

I added a second drive (an ssd to the hdd) and tried to install ubuntu on the ssd. The installation failed (twice) at grub2.

The solution was to select "uefi boot" in bios and setting up an efi partition. After that the installation went through without any errors.

Can you please backport this to Ubuntu 18.04? The release is supported until April 2023, but for some reason this has not been fixed on bionic, which is the actual release that this bug was reported for.

Ubuntu 18 packages are broken for us until this is fixed.
