Bug Description

Binary package hint: kate

On a fresh install of Gutsy, kate dumps core on startup.

Bus error (core dumped)

Very strange to me - I can't understand how everything could be working but kate! Here's the crash file...

This drove me crazy for some time, because I knew it couldn't be a problem with kate, or kde, or libc, even though that was what it looked like on the surface.

Finally I ran a few different reinstalls on the same hardware. I was always able to reproduce the problem until I switched from XFS to ext3 as my filesystem type. (!!!) Now everything is working. Scary.
