Bug Description

Binary package hint: file-roller

file-roller hung when extracting from a solid rar archive with multiple files.

I right-clicked a multi-part rar archive and tried to extract it, and it failed to extract, waiting at the extracting screen forever.

I then tried opening the archive in file-roller, and it opened ok, I clicked Extract, then in the Extract dialog, clicked Extract... nothing happened

So then I went to a terminal and typed unrar e <rarfilename> and it worked..

Anyone else got a multi-part archive to extract from the right click, or file-roller gui?

Thank you for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? Could you attach an example to the bug?

sorry, I'm using ubuntu (GNOME) 7.10, with latest updates when the bug was found.

File... well it was pretty big so I deleted it after extracting with unrar.. I will try some more and report back when I can find an example.

cheers,

Gaspard

Hi,

You should check the rar version that created the file.
the free version of unrar only handles rar version 1.

Hi,

Since then I noticed an issue with file roller... when you click extract in the gui, it brings up a folder chooser
if you click the extract button on the dialog *it does nothing*...
UNTIL you have to go out of the starting folder, go back into it by double clicking the actual folder, (clicking the bread-crumb doesn't work)

This is confusing until you know about this issue, once you know about it it's simply annoying.

Cheers,
Gaspard

could you try if that's still an issue in hardy?

The main issue here is resolved...

I can right-click and extract successfully from all the multi-file and single file rar archives I could find laying around on my hard drives.

The secondary issue (with the extract dialog inside of file-roller not responding to extract unless you pick a folder) is still there.
I should probably open a second bug or find an existing bug for the secondary issue.

Cheers,

Gaspard
