Bug Description

web client 3.0.3

If you click on the link for series name for the 490 field (usually the top link) it returns results, but if you click on the series title for the 8XX field, (usually the bottom link) it doesn't return results.

For example record:

https://evergreen.lib.in.us/eg/opac/record/21043536?query=series%3Aheroes%20of%20olympus;qtype=keyword;locg=4;detail_record_view=0;_adv=1;page=0;badges=1%2C3

then go to the Search for related items by series section.

The first link labeled The heroes of Olympus works

The second link by same name returns no results

Example screen shot showing links attached

Can confirm that this remains an issue in 3.1.

Specifically, if you add a 490 or 8xx with no subfield $v (volume number), linking will work. If you add the subfield $v-- as a cataloger normally would, to aid library patrons as they browse the OPAC-- the linking no longer works.

In the interests of best cataloging practices and of user-friendliness, it would be great if this worked as expected.

Hello, we just ran into this issue, I'm assuming this is because of the use of display fields for the search results.

Opening up a record directly has the old usable behavior.

http://egcatalog.larl.org/eg/opac/record/116381?locg=1;detail_record_view=0;no_highlight=1;page=0;badges=1;query=series%3Aseries%3Adune

Series link is for 'Dune 1'

http://egcatalog.larl.org/eg/opac/record/116381
First series link is for 'Dune' and second link is for 'Dune 1'

This makes the series links useless for those that want to find more titles in the same series.

Does anyone have ideas on how this should be fixed?

The old logic went through each subfield and built the series links by creating a new <a> for each subfield, that included all the previous subfields in the search link for that specific subfield.

Should the new displayfield code in templates/opac/parts/record/series.tt2 handle this?

Should it just split the string on ; and build out the multiple links from there?

Or should the displayfield definition for series exclude the subfield v?

More discussion at bug 1791662, and a suggested way to disable displayfields for series display.
