Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

while typing an IM, striking the letter e results in changing the logging status:

(05:18:23 PM) Logging started. Future messages in this conversation will be logged.
(05:18:27 PM) Logging stopped. Future messages in this conversation will not be logged.

I get the same thing with the letter "a". When I do it brings up the New IM window. Very annoying. I have found that its something to do with the Ctrl+A shortcut. I have seen that instead of it being Ctrl+A the underline is under the "m" in message.

I actually got a response on this problem. It's not a bug, but
something I must has inadvertently caused. If you let your cursor
hover over the function in the drop down menu, then hit backspace, it
will eliminate the quick key setting that is giving you the problem.

This still seems to be a valid bug, or at least UI issue.

Steps to reproduce: (Tested in Linux client, version 2.5.5)
  1. [Accidentally] hit Alt-O (which summons the options menu)
  2. Type any character, or backspace. This will assign it to the shortcut for enabling/disabling logging.
  3. Keep typing, as if trying to type a message. This whole process seems to happen while the user is unaware, and trying to type a message.
  4. This character, inadvertantly chosen as the shortcut key will no longer appear in the written message. If typed, the notice
"Logging stopped [started]. Future messages in this conversation will [not] be logged." will appear in the message box.

Work around:
This is easily (but not obviously) undone by hovering over the Options menu, and hitting that same keyboard shortcut character, thereby removing it as a shortcut.)

LOL. It's silly but funny as "Options" menu in IM window takes any character as the shortcut. I accidental pressed "O" and then what... it started missing out all of the O's from my conversation.
