Bug Description

When I launch Chromium, two launchers are placed onto Ubuntu 16.04.3's Launcher bar. One launcher is desired and expected.

Would you mind sharing a screenshot demonstrating the issue? Do you have the chromium icon pinned to your launcher?

After reading your post, I deleted the chromium folder from .config and reinstalled Ubuntu 16.04.3. Then I fully updated it.

The issue remains; I can do better than a screenshot:

Additional Info:

From the command line, if I type chromium-browser I get:

ATTENTION: default value of option force_s3tc_enable overridden by environment.
[4908:4908:0209/081345.441727:ERROR:sandbox_linux.cc(375)] InitializeSandbox() called with multiple threads in process gpu-process.

Thanks for the info and the screencast, it demonstrates perfectly the issue.
I am puzzled as I'm not experiencing the issue in a fully up-to-date 16.04 VM.
Could you please share the output of the following commands:

    apt policy chromium-browser*

    grep -n Exec /usr/share/applications/chromium-browser.desktop

I assume you're not seeing this with any other application?

Note that the error about InitializeSandbox() is most likely unrelated.

I finally fixed this by locating and deleting every location on my computer that chromium scatters its trash:
find /home/user/ | grep chromium

So presumably there were some chromium-related desktop files under $HOME that interferred with the system-wide ones. Did you keep a copy of the offending directories/files, by any chance, for the sake of understanding what was going on?

In any case, I'm marking that bug invalid now. Thanks for the report, please keep filing bugs when you encounter issues!

Exactly. No, I didn't keep a copy of them (sorry). Thanks.
