Bug Description

Servers under BMC control should not (for long) be Powered Off while in Deploying state. The same is true for Commissioning and some other states where servers should be up and running.

If MAAS sees this, it should do something about it. It should either power the server on, or mark it failed immediately, rather than waiting for a timeout to occur.

summary: - MAAS should recognize servers that are Powered Off in Deploying state
+ MAAS should recognize servers that are Powered Off in Deploying state,
+ and do something about it.

I dont fully understand what you are trying to describe on the first paragraph of the bug report. Could you please clarify?

That said, MAAS, when it is powering on the machine, it ensures the machine reports itself as ON before the actual deployment happens. Otherwise, if the machine cannot be powered on, the machine won't be able to start the deployment process.

That said, if for whatever reason the machine powered off in the middle of the deployment, MAAS will wait for it to timeout, that's on purpose. If the administrator mistakenly powered off and powered it on again, the deployment will start all over again, which is exactly what we want.

If we were to power off the machine, that would mean that the machine would always fail to deploy and not give the opportunity to finish the deployment. So I dont believe this is a desired change of behavior.
