Every time I launch a browser, an error message pops up telling me the browser failed to launch, even as I am using the browser. Same phenomenon for Opera, Firefox, Chromium, and Chrome.
Everything works, but Xubuntu tells me it isn't.

David: can you reproduce that exact error message here? (or even better, share a screenshot of it)

Can you share the output of the following command, run in a terminal:

    ls -l /var/crash/
