Bug Description

Ubuntu 18.04
Nautilus 1:3.26.0-0ubuntu1
Bluefish 2.2.10

When I open a .php file from a FTP server browsed with Nautilus, Chrome is opened instead of the default application Bluefish.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Connect to an FTP server via Nautilus
2a. Double-click on a .php file: chrome opens and the file is downloaded
2b. Right click and select 'open with' and then Bluefish: the file is opened in bluefish as expected

So, on the double-click from Nautilus the wrong app (chrome!) is opened even if the .php files are associated with bluefish.

Thanks

Hi Daniele,
I have reported your bug to the authors of the program: it seems that there is no relationship between bluefish and the incidence that you report (Please read this https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=792974). Can you reproduce the error with version 2.2.10? If you can, please provide more information. Otherwise, close the bug.

Regards!

Hello Innocent,

Thank you, I have some more info and they lead to a problem in Nautilus rather than bluefish.

Here are the updated steps:
1. Connect to an FTP server via Nautilus
2a. Double-click on a .php file: chrome opens and the file is downloaded
2b. Right click and select 'open with' and then Bluefish: the file is opened in bluefish as expected

Can you transfer this bug to nautilus?

Thanks
Daniele

Hi Daniele,

I think it's clear that this is not a bluefish error. I think it is more appropriate that you communicate the error to Nautilus (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=Nautilus): I do not have it installed and I can not confirm the bug.

You can also close this bug (in launchpad)

That's discussed upstream on https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/issues/1414 and basically their opinion is that firefox shouldn't claim to be a x-scheme-handler/ftp handler

Not only Firefox, also Chrome and Opera are x-scheme-handler/ftp handlers.

IMHO this is a Nautilus bug, because it DOES SHOW *open with Text Editor* on a txt file, and it DOES NOT do that.

But it DOES work when you select *Open with other application* and then select *Text Editor*.

IMHO the handling in the context menu should be the default in Nautilus.

The bug is still there in Ubuntu 20.10. I'm even almost certain it was fixed and re-appeared recently.
