Bug Description

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

Comparing to eg. Evolution, Thunderbird is really really slow... Everything is slow!
I would consider it next to useless because of this.
More complains here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=599619

My hardware is pretty modern; Pentium D 3,2GHz, 2GB RAM with a fast nvidia graphic adapter.
No other processes are consuming any resources.

This issue just has to be fix somehow...

Bumping this. Still slow on Ubuntu 7.10. Push it upstreams?

A hint; it's a bit faster when turning of the font rendering! Is it a FreeType issue?

Are you still experiencing these issues with the latest Thunderbird 2 version?

I too experience the same problem on the latest Ubuntu and its Thunderbird on modern hardware. Thunderbird on Windows was blazing fast in comparison. I haven't tested Thunderbird with a profile from scratch, so far I've only been using the profile I've copied from Windows. Perhaps starting with a clean profile makes a difference.

Yes, please try with a clean profile. You can move your mail over into the new profile.

affects: mozilla-thunderbird (Ubuntu) → thunderbird (Ubuntu)

The new profile seems to do the job. Thunderbird is much faster now.

I still have this feeling, though, that Thunderbird and Firefox are a little slower in Ubuntu compared to my earlier Windows installation.
