Bug Description

The laptop is thinkpad, and when I use testing version of Ubuntu 18.04, close the lip, and then unable to wake up the linux session again. The screen is fully black.

I found it not a bug from any desktop session managers because all desktop environments (openbox/mate) will encounter this issue without exception.

Once I accidentally close the laptop lip, I have no way to wake it up (e.g. press power button, ..) but to request for a FORCE-shutdown.

I just confirmed that this bug is from kernel 4.13, and replacing it into 4.4 from Ubuntu 16.04 will get fixed.

I just confirm this bug is from ubuntu kernel 4.13 since I force install xenial kernel 4.4 on Ubuntu 18.04 and everything is fixed. So I think there is some problem from nouveau driver.

Hello,
can you try to install the proprietary nvidia driver to see if it helps?

You will find the driver package name in:
sudo ubuntu-driver list

Or install it with:
sudo ubuntu-driver autoinstall

Thanks
