Web fonts take a considerable amount of time to load [over a high-speed connection]

Even over a high-speed connection, web fonts seem to take far too long to download for websites in which the default font is not installed on the drive of my system.

Ubuntu 17.10 (artful) reached end-of-life on July 19, 2018.
Upstream report was closed "RESOLVED INCOMPLETE" on 2018-01-18 due to lack information.

@Jeb E, do you still see an issue with the currently supported versions of Ubuntu and Firefox?
