Ubuntu desktop 18.04 daily build development branch on 16/12/2017

Update-manager GUI does not expand details (black window of update progress)
when clicking >details of the window, instead it shows an empty colored area.

Ah yes, that resize display area bug. The reason why you get just one line of terminal output.

Here, this bug has been in effect for several releases now. (Ubuntu with Gnome Flashback)

Workaround to get some terminal output:

Disable automatic downloads of updated files. The key here is that you need to show details on progress during the download phase, otherwise you'll get the "one-liner".

When having terminal output, try resize the window. It will resize down but terminal output will never resize up, adding more lines. Resizing sideways still works.

I'd assume it's nothing to do with Ubuntu with Gnome, see the same issue in Xubuntu using Xfce.
