Gnome-shell segfault and returns to login screen

Since my upgrade to ubuntu 17.10 (and therefore usage of gnome-shell instead of unity), I have regular crashes of gnome-shell where I return to the login screen. I don't have a reproduction scenario, it appears to happen at random times, sometimes multiple times a day when some other days everything is fine.

Everytime, I have this line in my kern.log :

The segfault always refers to libst.

I work as a developer and tend to use some applications that take quite a lot of memory.

Please have a look in /var/crash and if you find a relevant crash file then upload it using this command:

  apport-cli /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash

This bug is incomplete because we don't yet know which crash it is. Quite likely it's one of the ones in functions starting with "st_" in this list:

Thanks but please only provide crash files using ubuntu-bug, apport or apport-cli (which might be more reliable) commands. Then let us know the ID of the new bug.

Attaching a crash file directly to a bug is a security risk for you so I have removed it.

  ubuntu-bug _usr_bin_gnome-shell.2162.crash

It should make a new bug and not attach anything here.
