Bug Description

gtk3 was declared stable in September 2016 with the gtk 3.22 release. gparted should switch to gtk3.

gparted and a few input methods (for language support) are likely to be the only packages keeping gtk2 on the default Ubuntu 18.04 iso.

Because gparted also does not support Wayland, the Ubuntu Desktop team is considering removing gparted from the install iso.
