Bug Description

This started happening today so probably a new issue caused by a kernel update.

Randomly, maybe every 45 minutes wifi disconnects and reconnects. Attached is a log output from dmesg. Looks like issue is in the iwlwifi driver. Disconnect causes TCP connections to drop so it's quite annoying for end user.

ThinkPad T460p, up to date kernel on Ubuntu 17.04.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.14 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

To be realistic I probably won't be testing this with different kernels. It's happening on a production laptop which I need daily and is a bit tricky to reproduce. Maybe someone else suffering from the issue can do the tests.

More info: the bug doesn't happen on every boot. Suspend/resume cycles may trigger it. I haven't found a way to reproduce it reliably.

I've tested it with 4.14, works like a charm:
$ uname -r
4.14.0-041400-generic

I also tried it with 4.15-rc4 but no luck there, it has the same problem.

So far it works but if I were to encounter any problems I'll post the details.

Taking it back, after almost one week of testing the bug sometimes comes back. I use my laptop on different places and I've noticed that in some networks the problem is more likely to appear than in others. In some the problem never appears, it might be pure chance though.

This problem often comes together with kernel freezes where not even SysRq commands respond.

I'm not sure if I have to or should post logs nor which logs to post to complement this comments. I'll keep an eye here and post anything you need, however, my logs look extremely similar to the ones of Ville Ranki.

I think it's also important to mention that I have a fresh installation, 1 week old, no funny business there.

I'm still seeing this in 18.04 LTS.
