Openoffice crashes in some format menu options

Bug Description

I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 in a dual-boot system on a separate harddrive from XP. I installed it from the DVD, and have done the updates from the little orange button.

OpenOffice.org 2.3.0 crashes when I try to use the Format menu options. I've only looked at Format>Paragraph and Format>Character, but it could exist for other menu options as well. I have recreated this bug several times, once on a school report and ten more times trying to figure out what went wrong.

on the "About Openoffice.org" window, the last, technical-looking line reads: openoffice.org-core 1:2.3.0-1ubuntu5, if that helps any.

I don't know if this would affect it at all, but I did install Japanese language support, and use the Anthy character input, but it wasn't even turned on when I've done this.

Hi Elizabeth,

could you specify what version of ubuntu (type uname -a in a terminal) you are using ?

there is a common bug #131526 that causes crashes when using certain gnome desktop themes with openoffice 2.3.0
can you confirm that the problem occurs even when you are using the Human desktop theme ? (System->Preferences->Appearance)

  thanks,

      Koen

Ah--and upon checking, it does not occur when using the Human desktop theme. I had been using Crux, if it's important.
