totem only shows black screen but no video

After installing a fresh Ubuntu 17.10 I can't display videos with totem any more.
If I double-click on an mpeg file the window is opened, sound starts but window stays black.

I also have issues with VLC, which I could solve by disabling the VA-API via DRM.

Thanks. Please try this as a workaround for totem:

  sudo apt remove gstreamer1.0-vaapi

or this as a workaround for all players:

  sudo apt remove mesa-va-drivers

I'm going to group this with bug 1720820 just to keep us organized and on the same page.

If a fix for bug 1720820 arrives and this bug is not resolved then we can un-duplicate this one.

remove gstreamer1.0-vaapi worked for me.
