Error message was that Digikam depended on digikam-
A package dependency search through Aptitude finally revealed that the problem was libsane-common.

That package version is from an unsupported PPA such as
https:/ /launchpad. net/~rolfbensch /+archive/ ubuntu/ sane-git
so this is not a bug in Ubuntu/Kubuntu, but is due to the use of git
builds from a PPA that may not be compatible with the version
dependencies of the official Digikam packages.
Your downgrade was to the ubuntu archive version of libsane, which
explains why that then works.
